Parrots have always been an interest because of their colors and characters which are a challenge to portray. Many people share their lives and home with parrots, so parrots in art are loved by many people too. Her first study trip to observe parrots in the wild was in May 2009 when she visited the tropical island of Mauritius to observe the endangered Mauritius Parakeet. This project was a sponsored Flag expedition by the Artists for Conservation Foundation. To view the handwritten log of this expedition please go to "Handwritten journal". Ria supports the World Parrot Trust (WPT). She keeps a blog on the website of the WPT; to read it please follow the link to the blogger's page on www.parrots.org She also publishes blogs about various natural history themes on the website of Artists for Conservation. Her first book "A Treasury of endemic fauna of Mauritius and Rodrigues" was recently published. Every page shows a full colour image of a Mascarene species, among them are four extinct parrots.
